HOW LOW CAN YOU GO (LIMBO)
Guys...it’s time to Limbo.
I have been waiting to write this since last night. You already know from Wednesday, I said I would be listening to this at 9pm ON THE DOT. It was quite the album drop experience, let me tell you why.
For some reason, I love when artists do Instagram Live’s right when their music drops. It’s like a little quarantine party. It’s so special. The excitement they have, mixed with the excitement we already have, it’s electric. While I didn’t join the Instagram feed for long, it was so fun watching Aminé blast his new songs with his best friends. Instead, I instantly took to Spotify, so I could absorb as much of the album as I could before coming here and talking about it.
First of all, wow. I was levitating. Not literally, I wish. However, it felt like it. The vibe of this album is good vibes only, you will get that feel instantly. Not going to lie though, there is a little spoken tribute to Kobe that may have put a little lump in my throat. It wasn’t crazy deep or emotional either. Just hearing his name, and hearing other’s experiences with how they felt when he died...brings back memories. So if you’re going to do anything…listen to this album how you think Kobe would. I’m SURE it will instantly become a positive experience for you.
So, let’s talk about MY favorites here, since you all can’t tell me yours right now. On Wednesday, I mentioned that “Compensating” was my end all be all. I couldn’t imagine a song that would make me feel that hyped and mellow at the same time. However, I was proven wrong. As a big fan of Summer Walker, I was stoked to see her name on a song. I clicked it instantly. I should note that I am in fact not the type of person to play an album start to finish, unless the artist says it is meant to tell a story from beginning to end. This song, “Easy,” is the perfect mellow vibe. While it doesn’t get me fired up like “Compensating” does, it makes me feel super at ease. The beat kind of gives me the vibe like I’m laying by the pool in Hawaii, getting sunburned, but really not caring at all. I mean I feel like I HAVE to say this once every blog post, but it’s hot girl Summer vibes. Even if the song is talking about how ships have sailed and love dwindling.
My second favorite newbie is “Pressure In My Palms.” Also a huge fan of Vince Staples, I was almost shocked to see him on this album. Not really shocked, but pleasantly surprised. I mean he’s a huge artist, but I still feel like he’s sometimes underappreciated. DEFINITELY NOT HERE. This is the hype vibe we need. It’s almost unfair that this bop dropped and I can’t use it as a pregame song. Like you know what I mean, pregaming before hitting the clubs and ruining your life. YEAH. That’s exactly what this song is serving. I guess the only other option is to listen to it and get wine drunk in your living room. I’m sorry, I don’t make the rules, quarantine does.
This is a big claim to make, but this album gives me hope for 2020. It just feels like there is no possible way that an album this good could drop, and we all can’t go sing and dance to it outside. Something doesn’t sit right with me. So let’s manifest, here and now, quarantine ending with this album. I mean, I know there are plenty more albums to come, but this one FEELS DIFFERENT. Right??
Anyways, “Compensating” is still up there for me. I hold all the first released singles near and dear to my heart. So yes, that means “Riri” is also up there. However, the rest of the album slaps. There is no way you can tell me otherwise, I won’t accept the opinion. At least not this week.
As always, links are below for everything you might need. Hit us up and tell us your favorite song off the album!
‘Til next timeeeeeeeeeeeee
