Digital Druglord
Happy Friday!
Today I’m really excited to announce that it has been THREE years since Digital Druglord by Blackbear came out. Granted, the three year anniversary was 2 weeks ago. Hey, the concept of time doesn’t exist in quarantine okay??
I think this album is iconic in it’s own way for almost everyone I know. Me personally? Used to use certain songs to start petty arguments with my several summer boyfriends. I know, I know. Other people I know, really used Digital Druglord to reflect on their life as a whole. Truly love that for them. However, with warm weather creeping in, I’m remembering what a Summer staple this item is. To be honest, everything I will be writing about now will have to do with the warmer season. It’s just the best and brings all the good vibes. Tell me if I’m wrong.
So, now I’m going to tell you all the things that make this album iconic. As if you didn’t know already. Let’s just take a walk on memory lane, okay??
Where to even begin? Let’s start with “do re mi.” This song truly is the ultimate diss track. You can use it to get over a guy/girl OR you can use it to pump up your next cardio session. Personally, I have done both, and it works phenomenal. Clearly, this song is about a girl screwing over Blackbear. SO rude. However, it made for a great track. Next, we have, “i miss the old u.” Is this about the same person? Who knows. If so, she sounds like a mess. Caught up in the LA party scene, seems like a typical story these days. This song is definitely one for listening in the shower, and thinking about life. Miss the way one of your friends used to be? Reflect on it with this anthem. Definitely a more mellow tune, but really makes you think. One of my favorite things about his music! His voice is so comforting, but at the same time, has you wondering about where everyone from your past is at.
I think I am going to conclude this little Blackbear love fest with, “chateau.” The second to last song on the album, it sounds like he’s getting his baddie mentality back. While also acting like a woke king. Acknowledging that he does have a heart, and DOES want it back. We have to stan. However, he’s also damaged. So, he’s going to mess around a little bit.
Honestly, while this album set the tone for Summer 2017, we have to love and appreciate the progression we have seen from him up to this day. With Cybersex also in 2017, and ANONYMOUS in 2019, he’s really grown as a human and an artist. I mean, c’mon, he’s even got a little CUB now. We could not be more proud of him.
Which leads me to talking about his merch. I cannot express how badly my baby fever spiked, upon seeing his “bearcub” line. Even just the name, swoon. If you are like me, and don’t have kids to spoil with Blackbear baby clothes, treat yo self. His tie dye “Bummer” tee, is one of my favorites. Honestly, kind of fitting for the 2020 mood, don’t you think?
If you’re feeling the Blackbear spirit, and want to rock his merch to your work from home office, check out what we got here! And follow us to stay tuned on more updates in the future!
